Legislation
CE Marking
A mandatory European marking for certain products which indicate conformity with the essential Health and Safety requirements set out in European Directives.
The CE Mark, which stands for "Conformite Europenne", must be affixed to a product if it falls under the New Approach Directives so that it can be sold in the fifteen member states. The CE Mark is not a quality-mark, it addresses the safety of the product not its quality.
UL 508
The Safety Standard for Industrial Control Equipment UL 508 covers the requirements for all devices rated at 1500V and above which will be used in an ambient temperature of 0-40 Deg C (32-104 Deg F) unless specified. Industrial equipment such as control panels that are assemblies of industrial control devices and devices associated with the control of motor operated equipment are also covered within the UL508.
UL 60950-1
The Safety Standard for Industrial Control Equipment UL 609050-1 is applicable to all mains or battery powered information technology equipment with a rated voltage no higher than 600V. Information Technology equipment included are 1) Telecommunication terminals, network and infrastructure regardless of power supply 2) Cable distribution systems and their infrastructure regardless of power supply 3) Any communication transmission medium which uses AC Mains
The standard specifies requirements which aim to reduce risks of fire, electric shock or injury for users who come into contact with the equipment.
UL 1604
The Safety Standard for Industrial Control Equipment UL 1604 applies to equipment, circuits or components intended for use in hazardous conditions. The equipment will be capable of being installed in accordance with the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70. The requirements cover Class 1 Division 2 electrical equipment where circuits and components are incapable of causing ignition and Class 2 Division 2 and Class 3 Divisions 1 & 2 where equipment is constructed to reduce or exclude the entrance of dust.
These requirements only apply to equipment being used in an ambient temperature of 5 to 40 C (41 to 104 F), where the oxygen concentration not greater than 21 percent and the nominal barometric pressure is equal to one atmosphere.
NEC Class 2
The NEC (National Electrical Code) is the North American standard detailing the installation of electric conductors and equipment within or on buildings. The Class 2 standard limits the max voltage and current in a circuit. Class 2 circuits have specific requirements regarding wire size, derating factors, over current protection, insulation, wiring methods and installation materials.
The CB Scheme for 60950,I.T.E and 60950-1, medical
Under the international IECEE CB Scheme, manufacturers obtain CB reports for their products as a form of passport to each country. With a review of the product and the CB report, national laboratories of each country can issue approvals for that country.
GL GERMANISCHER LLOYD
Germanischer Lloyd Industrial Services (GLIS) provide testing and certification and consulting for appliances used within the oil and gas, wind energy, management systems and materials testing sectors. The approval covers the units system, voltage and frequency.
CCC MARK (china)
The China Compulsory Certification (CCC) is the compulsory inspection system which checks the contents of products and their quality for import and export in China.
DEVICE NET, ODVA APPROVAL
The DeviceNet system is a communication protocol based upon CANbus. It is an Open Network Standard that allows interchangeability of simple devices whilst facilitating the interconnectivity of complex devices. DeviceNet Specification is obtained from the Open DeviceNet Vendor Association Inc. (ODVA)
The ODVA is an international association of industrial automation companies who support network technologies based on the Common Industrial Protocol (CIP The CIP is a unifying object model for all ODVA protocols. These protocols currently include DeviceNet, EtherNet/IP, CIP Motion, CIP Safety and CIP Sync). The ODVA manages the development and compliance of these technologies.
AS-INTERFACE APPROVAL
The AS-International Association is a user group for manufacturers and users of the AS-Interface system. The task of the User Group is to promote bus-compatible interfaces for binary sensors and actuators. AS-Interface Certification indicates a product conforms to the specification of AS-Interface ensuring high quality and simple use. AS-Interface Certificated power supplies have certain unique characteristics regarding internal circuitry and output voltage. Standard 24VDC power supplies cannot be used to directly power a segment
EN 61000-3-2 (PFC)
Any electrical or electronic products that draw less than 16 A in the European Union, must meet the requirements of EN 61000-3-2 and EN 61000-3-3. These two standards control harmonic emissions and voltage fluctuations from electrical and electronic apparatus.
